ISO 14001 – ISO 50001 Comparison
ISO 50001 is intentionally being drafted to parallel the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. Consequently, organizations that already have an ISO 14001 system in place can easily integrate an ISO 50001 system into the existing structures. For example, the identification of Energy Aspects and an Energy Update Methodology are mostly new developments for ISO 50001. But ISO 50001 should be readily integrated into the ISO 14001 Record Keeping System, Document Management System, and Training and Awareness Activities.
The following table shows the major components of an ISO 14001 system and an ISO 50001 system, along with an assessment of how similar each component is between the two systems.
